Extraordinary Journey

Within is Where You Start (part 3)

This is a continuation from Within is Where You Start (part 2). If you haven’t read that post, check it out!

In part 2, I discussed the first 2 popular personality tests:
1. Four Temperaments, and
2. Enneagram

For this post, I’m going to discuss the remaining 2 tests.

3. MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator)

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personal favorite perhaps because of its “repeatability”.  Other personality tests have given me different results each time I took the tests.  I have taken the MBTI test around 5 times using different sets of questions from different websites and consistently got the same result – INTJ.  This is probably why MBTI is one of the most widely used systems.

The test was developed by Isabel Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs in the 1940s, based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types.  Based on this typology, a person may fall into one out of 16 personality types, depending on his preferences on 4 parameters as shown in the cheat sheet below:

4. Spiritual Gifts

This is not exactly a personality test but a very useful tool for Christians whose goals align with God’s purpose for their lives.  This gifts inventory is most helpful for those who do full- or part-time church work.  The spiritual gifts is based on the Bible’s mention of a number of spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:8-11,

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

as well as other verses (e.g., Romans 12:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:28).  These gifts are bestowed to a person by the Holy Spirit once he becomes a believer.

Other Interesting Personality Tests

Other personality tests worth looking into are the following, although I wasn’t able to locate any free online tests for these.

  1. DISC (dominance, inducement/influence, submission/steadiness, compliance/ conscientiousness) Assessment Test
  2. Leadership Legacy Assessment
  3. The Birkman Method

So that covers the section on personality.  Take note, there’s no such thing as a superior or inferior personality type.  Each type has its own set of strengths and weaknesses and how you manage those will determine how well you will proceed in your life’s journey.

In the next sections, I will be discussing character, passion, talent, and internal limitations.  Meanwhile, I would love to know your personality test results through the comments section.
